The girls competing for captain had choreographed their routines to include dance as well as equipment handling done to music. They spun and tossed flags, rifles, and sabres. It was fun to watch and I couldn't help but think of the "good ol' days" of being the captain and being so involved in something I loved. I remember too many days and nights spent out on the football field running sets over and over and over again. I remember being covered in bruises, sunburned, and completely worn out. Like I said, the good ol' days. :)
The girls competing for captain also had to write an essay listing their qualifications. This year they were all great essays, but I do remember some funny things from last year's tryouts. One of the girls had said she knew that she sometimes had "emotional problems" and had been known to "throw fits", but that she really thought she was "getting better"! (Yeah, she wasn't chosen.)
I couldn't resist digging my rifle out of the garage and playing with it in the backyard after that. My kids looked at me like I was crazy but oh, well! That's probably what they think most of the time anyway. :)
