Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag. Shake to combine them. Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed. Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece.
If someone has made this and has any thoughts about it, let me know! :)

That's a great idea! I'll have to try that!
I've done this and love it. The first time my family and I did this the new bag came in contact with the hot metal of the top of the pan and melted it a little (I don't know why once it's in the boiling water it doesn't do the same), but after that first time we just made sure they were in the pan. Also, this is a great camping solution to cooking eggs. Also, as you'd suspect you'll want to get as much air out of the bag as possible so the bag doesnt float.
That is a great idea to use this for camping. Ethan doesn't like eggs but the kids would get a kick out of it.
That sounds like fun. Something fun to do with the kids too (too bad nobody in my house but me likes eggs...)
I've never tried the bag before but have heard good success stories. Not sure it would work for the super-cheesy omelets I prefer. What I have done quite often is to place all of the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and cook for about 3 min. With this method, you get a nice crispy top and can even include some pre-cooked potatoes. AND I've done the same basic thing in a casserole and baked it.
we have done this and it works great! my recollection was exactly 7 minutes, or was it 11? hmmm not the best at remembering these details. i guess i would stick with 13 to make sure they actually get done. have fun.
