This has been a good week for spring cleaning. Crisp and chilly out to want to stay in, but enough sunshine to motivate some hard work!
While cleaning up in the girls' room I found little collections of random things; paper towel rolls, stacks of drawings, ribbons, etc. The girls have been passionate about gathering little things lately -- probably due to their new fascination with the Guiness Book of World Records. Anyway, Emmie shared me that she has an idea for yet another collection . . . daddy's old contacts! Can you say YUCK? Ethan gave her a pair the other night because she was really interested and she thought they were the coolest things ever. Really, the mind of a five-year-old amazes me.
Our family has not been on a get-away together since Ryan was a newborn and we went to the coast. He didn't even go on that trip, and I've been dreaming for a while about doing some sort of little family outing. We're thinking of going to Lagoon, and to fund the trip we're going to try to have a massive yard sale. I am so excited to do this! It really makes spring cleaning more fun when you look at everything you clean out as potential trip dollars. (Also makes it easier to part with stuff.) I've promised the girls they can do a lemonade stand this year too. Do any of you have any experience trying to sell baked goods at yardsales? I'm wondering if we should even try or if it will be a big waste of time. What do you think?

Oh my goodness this totally makes me laugh!! Just last week Jeff and I both had to switch out contacts. The kids were curious as to what they felt like. Because we were just going to throw them out, we let them touch them. We told them that if they waited overnight, they would get really hard. Which they thought was really cool. Maddy has moved on with life but Bryson has asked almost every day since if he can have more contacts to play with (he was devastated when the hard ones broke). Too funny that both Emily and Bryson have the same (odd) new liking :)
That sounds sooo fun to go to Lagoon!! It is something that we have always wanted to do with the kids too! Let me know when that big sale is and I'll come support the family trip fund!! I would totally do the baked goods and put one of your cute little kids in charge and they are sure to attract people!
well people will sure pay a pretty penny for lemonade from cute little girls! we had jade do a baked sale for a softball fundraiser (instead of going door-to-door knocking, like they wanted) and she raised a whole $NOTHING$. i was disappointed, but i still think it was better time wasted then sending her door-to-door beggin' for money!!!
we weren't yard saling right next to her either. that makes a big difference.
i'll donate some baked goods for the cause. :) we were going to do lagoon a few years ago and decided it'd probably be a lot funner when the kids were older.

My sister and I have a rule about ALWAYS buying from the kids at yard sales. They're just so cute. We ALWAYS buy the drink, and if the kids and parents look clean and they're handling the baked goods properly, we'll attempt the baked goods occasionally. I'm all for adorable kids selling stuff :D
The lemonade stand idea works great with a yard sale, people really will buy, esp if the are working towards something. Ashlynn did it last year to earn money to go to church camp, she had so much fun & earned half of the money.
